Haven’t quite figured out your plans for NYE? Don’t worry! It’s not too late to invite a few of your closest friends to ring in 2017 with an easy, low-key party at home. Here’s a few tricks to pull it off in less than 24 hours.
1) Don’t Overthink it
Since this is a last-minute bash, remember less is more. Stock up on champagne, create a great playlist, pull out your party dress (or suit), and send an e-invite to your closest friends and family. Sometimes the most spontaneous get-togethers are the most memorable.
2) DIY Décor
When it comes to décor, keep it simple. Confetti and candles are really all you need to set the mood. Make the space feel bright and welcoming – think confetti on the floor and glitter filled balloons hanging from the ceiling. You can also utilize leftover wine bottles from earlier celebrations as centerpieces, spray painted gold and filled with seasonal greenery. Party hats, metallic throw pillows, mismatched plates, and drink trays lined with patterned wrapping paper are also easy ways to add a sparkly statement to the space.
3) Serve Small Bites
Since most of your guests will arrive after dinner, serve bite size hors d’oeuvres that can be replenished all night long. Think mini tarts, baked cheese, spiced nuts, and assorted dips and spreads. An antipasto display is another great way to add color and variety to your table, spark conversation, and bring a relaxed feel to the party. Choose fresh, local meats and cheeses, roasted peppers, marinated tomatoes and artichoke hearts, olives, and a variety of toasted artisan bread. For all of your guests with a sweet tooth, try salted caramel tarts, pecan bars, almond biscotti, or chocolate dipped fruit.
4) Plan Games
Instead of going overboard, focus the festivity in one room. You’ll want your guests to unwind and have fun, so choose one or two games and keep them in the party room to get the most participation. Guess each other’s New Year’s resolutions, play a round of trivia, or cue the tunes and mingle. If time allows, create a makeshift photo booth by setting up a backdrop using string lights or streamers, a Polaroid camera, and props straight from your closet. Come up with a catchy hashtag and let the social sharing begin.
5) Setup a Champagne Bar
NYE wouldn’t be the same without a champagne toast at midnight. Make party prep easy by setting up a champagne cocktail bar so guests can get creative and craft their own fizzy, festive drink. Choose colorful ingredients such as fresh squeezed juices like pomegranate and pear, seasonal berries like raspberries and cranberries, sugar cubes, and lemon twists for garnish. If you’re feeling fancy, you can even throw a splash of liquor in the mix, like Gin or St. Germain. For a refreshing alternative to Champagne, try Prosecco or Cava. Last but not least, don’t forget the champagne flutes!
